Fire pump services

Fire pumps require frequent testing. They also must be certified because when a fire occurs, proper water flow needs to be available to knock down flames. Architects and technicians will also request testing of pumps and hydrants to determine whether the available water supply is adequate enough to make for effective fire sprinkler systems.

Valley Fire is the go-to contractor for both fire protection and plumbing services. We ensure high quality and thorough testing of pumps and hydrants, whether it’s part of a routine maintenance procedure or at the request of design professionals.

Pump capacity & performance test

Valley Fire’s testing professionals are available at all hours to make sure all pumps have proper water flow. If we find an issue, we also have the expertise to fix the problem.

Pump capacity and performance tests ensure that in the event of a fire, your system will have sufficient flow to douse the flames. If pumps fail, a fire can do enormous damage before firefighters can respond. When conducting periodic testing, Valley Fire looks at every piece of the fire pump system to ensure that every aspect of the system is in working order. If repairs or modifications need to be made, our testing professionals locate the issue before it becomes a problem.

Fire pumps: protecting your building from fire

When a municipal water system can’t provide sufficient pressure to a fire protection system, pumps are installed. At Valley Fire, we know the importance of the fire pump in protecting your building and everything in it in event of a fire.

Fire pump design and build to increase water pressure

Many municipal water systems can’t provide sufficient pressure to meet the hydraulic design requirements of a fire sprinkler system, in which case fire pumps are installed. Most high-rise buildings require the increased water pressure that fire pumps provide. Also, facilities with relatively high terminal pressure needs are outfitted with fire pumps to increase water pressure.

Our team of design-and-build technicians are highly qualified to build customized fire pump solutions. Every building has its own set of challenges. When Valley Fire takes on a project, our design-and-build approach minimizes potential obstacles and increases water pressure for your fire protection system. Valley Fire professionals have extensive knowledge in a variety of pumps, including horizontal split case, vertical split case, vertical inline, vertical turbine and end suction. We determine which will be the best fit based on the needs of each unique facility.

Fire pump installation

When Valley Fire installs fire pumps, our clients know that they will provide the pressure required for optimal fire protection system operation. After installation, we continue to add value through expert maintenance, servicing and testing to identify potential problems before they happen. This proactive approach prevents breakdowns and helps to save on costly repairs.

We follow NFPA 20, the standard for installation of stationary pumps for fire protection services. NFPA 20 provides stringent rules for the installation of pumps, ensuring that a system will work as intended.

“On behalf of the Batavia Fire Department, I would like to thank you for donating the pipe used to fix the fire pump on our Squad. It was very generous of you to give us these materials at no cost and we really appreciate it.”

Regular fire pump inspection and testing

Fire pumps and hydrants are tested and certified in order to determine the available water flow in case of a fire emergency. In addition, fire pumps and hydrants may be tested at the request of architects, technicians and others to determine the available water supply for the purpose of designing effective fire sprinkler systems.

Our fire pump testing includes:

  • Churn-test firing pumps at a no-flow condition to make sure they are up to manufacturer’s standards at a no-load condition
  • Test firing pumps by flowing water out of the test header and operating fire pumps at 100 percent and 150 percent of rated capacity
  • Checking jockey pump and fire pump pressure settings
  • Making sure the FACP monitors pump running and power failure
  • Testing the automatic transfer switch on the fire pump controller, if applicable
